About

The Cooperage dates back to the 13 th Century and was known then as a rich merchants house only the Castle and its keep are older than this building. First records are from the 15 th Century. This quaint magnificent building is now a pub/nightclub and is set on the famous Newcastle Quayside which of course is part of the fantastic Newcastle night scene. The pub is to undergo extensive refurbishment in the next couple of months which will be interesting to compare past and present. The pub has an excellent reputation for real ales. It also specialises in private hire for functions or corporate events. The Cooperage also has specific events on certain night of the week. (Please check events page for details).

Pub Review

Previously a Coopers workshop (hence the name) in the 18 th century. One of the oldest buildings in the city. The pub is listed in the AA good pub guide and is also reputed to be haunted. There is a cosy atmosphere in the pub with two small bars on either side of main entrance. The bar has a timber framed ceiling with wooden beams. Old pictures of Newcastle adorn the walls. The pub attracts students, locals and Quayside revellers. It can be busy at most times due to its reputation for excellent real ales, and especially at the weekend.

There is an excellent view of the High level and Tyne bridges from pub. A Quiz night is held every Tuesday from 9pm . A further bar and night club is located in the lounge to the left of the main entrance with live music featured on certain nights. A DJ is also located in this area with Latin Salsa Jazz Soul funk played on most nights. Monday night is ignition from 8pm - 2am with live bands from 8.30pm - 10.30pm . Every Wednesday is Greek night with resident DJ Sakis - playing latest Greek music (tequila shots £1, corona & lime £2, doble vodka & mixer £2.50, sangria jugs £9.95). Thursday is Polish Vodka party night - £1.00 entry and vodka/tequila shots £1.00. Link cash machine is located inside. A function room is available for hire with party bookings taken.
